“After working in retail and after having my children, I went to work in a GP practice. I had been there for almost 15 years working as a Dispensing Technician. I felt ready for a change, I needed a new challenge!
A temporary position came up to cover maternity leave for one of our Medical Secretaries so I jumped at this opportunity. Having experiencing this role for four months I decided this was to be my new path. I knew I would need to retrain as my IT skills were non-existent, I had never typed and I knew medical terminology was essential in gaining a post.
Searching online I found Pitman Training in Worcester and I was invited in to chat to Jazz Chateau about courses on offer. I found the office professional and very friendly and welcoming and Jazz and Steph seemed genuinely interested in me as a person too which was really reassuring. The cost of the courses took me aback but I was fortunate enough to have help from my family, this was my chance to expand my career horizons and leave a job I was no longer happy in.
The courses were well designed and easy to follow and great as I could work on them at home or in the office. I actually really enjoyed coming into the office as it was easier to concentrate and Steph and Jazz were on hand with any queries or questions.
Taking the exams one at a time was manageable and not as daunting as I expected them to be. The biggest part of my course was the medical terminology, this was made much easier with the expert help of Steph who constantly coached me and provided me with lots of past papers to practice on.
I started a part time position in my local hospital as a records clerk knowing this would be temporary but a foot in the door. During Covid all offices were stretched, and I offered my services to the medical secretaries to help with their back log. A couple of months later a position became available in the team MY CHANCE! With no expectations other than to gain interview experience I applied.
To my surprise I was then offered the job! My interview panel were very impressed that I had clearly invested in myself and put myself through gaining new qualifications to progress my career. I was expected to take an Excel test in my interview which I was able to do having taken my Excel qualification just one of the new strings to my bow.
My advice to anyone thinking about taking the plunge in taking on new qualifications is DO IT, do not look back, and you are in safe hands with Jazz and Steph at Pitman Training. My career path has changed for the better and I am so much happier.
Thank you Jazz and Steph for all your support and belief in me.”
